To reimagine The Royal Mint’s coin presentation packaging in line with its sustainability goals—reducing material use, introducing modular efficiency, and showcasing innovation without compromising on prestige.
The design proposals featured two core ranges: high-value MDF veneer boxes and sustainable rigid board alternatives. Each pack was engineered with formaldehyde-free MDF, FSC-certified papers, and recyclable paper-based ribbons. Finishes such as satin lacquer, electroformed logos, and gold detailing balanced sophistication with environmental sensitivity.
The creative direction celebrated craftsmanship and sustainability in equal measure. The materials and finishes were chosen to evoke permanence and value while reflecting The Royal Mint’s shift toward conscious production. Modularity became both a functional and philosophical design principle.
Detailed prototypes were created across multiple set sizes, from single to six-coin boxes. Each featured removable inserts, magnetised angled displays, and precision-fit hinges. Every component, from wood veneer to paper pulp mouldings, was selected for reduced environmental impact and lifecycle efficiency.
